You must apply to Systems Support for a PostgresQL account
You cannot create additional postgresql schemas or databases, so you are limited to the one that is created for you.
To access PostgresQL from the command line you should login to a Linux computer (e.g. cafe.cis.strath.ac.uk). From a Lab computer running Windows you can use the "SSH Cafe" icon on the desktop to access Linux.
To connect to the database use the following command: psql -U username -h devweb2019.cis.strath.ac.uk databasename
\q - to quit
\? - to list other useful PostgresQL commands
Changing your password
You can change your password using the SQL
ALTER USER username WITH PASSWORD 'newpassword';
You could also connect using psql and use the command \password
Accessing PostgresQL from home
You will need to use a SSH tunnel to access PostgresQL from outside the department.
ssh -2 -L 5432:devweb2019.cis.strath.ac.uk:5432 email@example.com
