You must apply to Systems Support for a MySQL account
You cannot create additional mysql databases, so you are limited to the one that is created for you.
To access Mysql from the command line you should login to a Linux computer (e.g. cafe.cis.strath.ac.uk). From a Lab computer running Windows you can use the "SSH Cafe" icon on the desktop to access Linux.
To connect to the database use the following command: mysql -p -h devweb2019.cis.strath.ac.uk database-name
Alternativly you can use phpMyAdmin which is a web based interface to mysql. Please note you need to use your MySQL password to login to it.
Changing your password
You can change your password using the special SQL
ALTER USER username IDENTIFIED BY 'newpassword';
Accessing MySQL from home
You will need to use a SSH tunnel to access MySQL from outside the department.
ssh -2 -L 3306:devweb2019.cis.strath.ac.uk:3306 email@example.com
